About the Artist

Hi, I’m Alejandra, the artist behind My Pacific Road.

Drawing began as something deeply personal for me. After the birth of my second child, my husband gave me an iPad, and little by little, illustrating became a way for me to process life, motherhood, anxiety, love, and eventually, grief.

After losing several people I loved, and my soul dog Pumba, I found myself returning more and more to the traditions I grew up with. One of the things I treasure most about Mexican culture is the way we make space for death as part of life. In Mexico, we decorate death, make jewellery about death, we paint death…But especially, we remember. During Día de Muertos, we welcome those we have lost back into our homes and our memories.

My illustrations are inspired by the bonds we form with the beings we love. Some pieces celebrate the lives we share with them, while others are about remembrance, grief, and the idea that love continues even after someone is gone.

What began as little drawings to help me process my own experiences eventually became My Pacific Road. Knowing that these illustrations now help other people celebrate their families, remember their soul pets, or simply put a feeling into an image means more to me than I can say.
